The complex central axis teaches Sabbath rest by comparison and contrast, one of the teaching tools of Scripture. One the one hand, we have gathering the manna morning by morning during the week, and on the other hand we have not gathering the manna on the Sabbath. What does the central axis mean? Simply put, that for six days, man shall labor and do all his work, but the seventh is a Sabbath of rest to YHVH; therefore remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, set apart from the common days of the week.
