When I started drinking carrot juice as part of my healing from cancer protocol, I began researching juicing in general. The next time I planned to do a 3-day fast, I did a 3-day juice fast. A juice fast is like a regular fast, except instead of drinking water only, you drink fresh juice and water. At the end of my initial 3-day juice fast, I had boosted my immune system, as a sinus infection I had been dealing with completely cleared up, and I had jump started my metabolism, as steady weight loss continued for several weeks after I had completed the fast. I am not giving you medical advice. But I am telling you what I did and what happened to me.
Now, when I need to do a fast, or a mini-detox in between my regular detox diet, I often do a juice fast.
My favorite juicing recipes are the carrot juice, linked above, and these (I use organic produce):
Tomato juice
2 tomatoes
2 cucumbers
1 red bell pepper
1 shallot
1 garlic clove
1 c cilantro
1 lime
Juice the lime first, with a reamer, to avoid getting the bitter pith into the juice. Juice the rest, and add salt to taste.
Beet juice
3 red beets, with tops
1 apple
1 1-inch cube gingerroot
1/2 to 1 pint blackberries
1/2 to 1 orange
Juice the orange first, with a reamer, to avoid getting the bitter pith into the juice. Juice the rest, and add filtered water to thin if necessary.
Pineapple juice
1/2 pineapple, peeled
1 box organic coconut water
Juice the pineapple, and add the coconut water to it. Yum!
Cucumber juice
2 cucumbers
2 stalks celery
1 apple
1 1-inch cube gingerroot
1/2 lemon
Juice the lemon first, with a reamer, to avoid getting the bitter pith into the juice. Juice the rest and add to the lemon.
