The first occurrence.
In the beginning God Elohiym created the heaven and the earth. Gen 1:1
The primitive root.
Strong’s H7225 re’shiyth, a concrete noun meaning, “beginning, firstfruits;” from Strong’s H7218 rosh, a concrete noun meaning, “head;” from an unused, unnamed primitive root meaning, “to shake.” The 3-letter root of the noun is resh + aleph + shin.
resh ר = the head of man, thus head, first, top, beginning, man
aleph א = the ox head, thus strength, power, leader
shin ש = two front teeth, thus sharp, press, eat, two, again
The story: The head (resh) has the power (aleph) to give his assent or denial (shin, i.e., a head nod of assent or shake of denial is a movement made again and again).
Robert Todd Hinde says
Why is beginning = re’shiyth = [From the same as רֹאשׁ (H7218)]*(“beginning” a feminine noun)?
christine says
Hello Todd, I am not sure why it is a feminine noun. I am sorry that I don’t have a more definitive answer for you. And I apologize for the lateness of this reply; I have been swamped with work and family emergencies this summer but am finally getting back on track.

Your observations here are excellent! Our addon here is that this is a representation of the Holy Spirit, who is introduced as the first fruits. Simplistically, Genesis 1:1 is an Introduction. In our adventurous hebraic paraphrase, eee see a throne room where The King and Queen and their Son who is the heir of all things are gathered Chiefs. The Queen is introduced first. Similar to John chapter 1 verse 1 the female personified Holy Spirit is in Proverbs chapter 8 verse 22. Pro 8:23 KJV “I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.” Characteristically, she’s the El Shaddai, with breast, birthing, the womb of ALOHYM. And then her representation is that of a a bird hovering over the face of the waters impregnating the Earth. Without her there is no Breath of Life no Chai, no shaking to Life. Other passages Scripture, John chapter 3, 14, and 16; Acts 1, 2 we get glimpses of her power, appearing as a rushing mighty wind, who is the great gift giver in Romans chapter 12 and in 1st Corinthians chapter 12, she nurtures, those that she has delivered thru birthing with the milk of the Word. In Proverbs she makes her appearance in several chapters. Proverbs Chapter 31 she is the complete Aleph-Bet, providing for every woman, who is a daughter a complete pattern to be copied. Doesn’t it make more Spiritual sense 🤔 to see Them as our FAMILY?
