Read 1 Kings 14 here (text coming …) or at Bible Gateway.
The Hebrew paragraphs:
14:1-4 {p} Jeroboam sent his wife to inquire of Abijah the prophet concerning his son, who was sick
14:5-20 {p} YHVH will cut off the house of Jeroboam/ uproot the house of Israel because they forsook Him
14:21-24 {p} Rehoboam reigned in Judah/ Judah did more evil than all their fathers before them
14:25-31 {p} Shishak king of Egypt took away the treasures/ Rehoboam died, his son reigned
1 Kin 11:40-14:31 Chiastic Structure:
The Chiastic Structure having to do with the entire reigns of Rehoboam and Jeroboam have as its central axis, that Jeroboam sent his wife to inquire of YHVH from the prophet Ahijah, when their son fell ill. Why would that be what the Holy Spirit places neon flashing lights around?
It merely points out in stark relief, that Jeroboam knew that the idols he had made were no gods at all. Otherwise, why not go to them to inquire? It is because, being false, there would be no answer, as Jeroboam well knew. When the rubber met the road, he sent his wife to the only true God, who would answer, and whose answer would come to pass.
