Zane and his family, and I and Sarah, and Aunt Kellie and her family, went to the Denver Zoo on Friday. It was a beautiful day, not a cloud in the sky, hot, crowded, and although not Zane’s first time at the zoo, it was his first time being thoroughly fascinated by everything he saw:
- Jun 24, 2006. Zane, a few weeks after his second birthday.
- Zane and Zach
- Come on, Zane!
- Zach being a typical boy
There were lots of babies out with their mothers …
- Mama and baby hippo
- Black bear cubs
- Mommy bear
- Baby gosling
As well as majestic adults (I wasn’t the only grandmother, either) …
- Tiger
- Naptime for cheetahs
- Grizzly
- Giraffe
- Kimodo Dragon
- Papa hippo keeping cool
- Sea lions
- Asian elephants (this one is the matriarch)
- Easily lifts tree trunks
- Just as easily picks up small items
- Stretches out her trunk to take an apple
- Look ma, one foot!
Beautiful gardens (not all terrestrial) …
- Honeysuckle, I think
- Scarlet bee balm
- Flamingo lake
- Koi pond
After a few hours in the sun …
- Ty and Zane watching the monkeys
- Grandma, I saw a monkey in that tree!
- And more monkeys.
- Find three ring-tailed lemurs
- Look closely, there is a ring-tailed lemur in the photo center
- Zane with curly eared African red pigs
- Steffie and Zane at the petting zoo
- Grandma, I saw goats!
- I am close enough to the tortoise, thank you Zach!
- Evolutionary propaganda at the primate house
- Squirrel interested in lunch
- Bravely venturing forth
- Zane meets a peacock
- Riding the carousel
- Katie being brave
- Not so bad with Mommy
- Steph, Ty, and Zane
- You are not getting me on that thing!
- But I will ride the train
- Trains are cool
- Ty and Steph
- The kids (and Sarah) fascinated by Tropical Discovery
- Those are big fish, Katie
- Big fish in a small pond
… first snacks, and then naps were required by everyone.
- Snack time!
- Sharing snacks
- Katie’s pooped
- Me too, Grandma
All in all, it was a wonderful day.
