This is my favorite painting of the nativity, Correggio’s Adoration of the Child. I think I like it so well because Mary is the worshiper instead of the worshipee. And also, there is real adoration in her face and manner. She is not just posing, as is the case in some nativity paintings. Correggio was an Italian artist during the High Renaissance, and died in 1534. Click on the painting to see a larger image at the Art Renewal Center.
