ESSENTIAL STUDIES
Numbers 31, Vengeance upon Midian
Additional studies: Numbers Index
Christine, when the world says YHVH is vengeful, wrathful, angry, and judgmental, doesn’t this passage prove their point? To be wicked or to act wickedly (Strong’s H7561, רשע rasha) according to its Hebrew Root Word parable, is of that which was from the beginning (resh), rejected again (shin) with malice aforethought (ayin). Thus, to depart from the ways of God. Adam departed from His ways the first time, perhaps unthinkingly; all the wicked since then depart from His ways the second time, knowing what they are doing. When He executes vengeance against the wicked, He is judging justly. All God’s wrath against wickedness and sin is on behalf of the innocent victims of that wickedness.
Psalm 95, Exhortation to worship
Additional studies: Psalms Book Four (90-106) Index
The first half of the psalm is an exhortation to worship, and the second half of the psalm is a plea to not rebel; that is, to do what the voice of YHVH says when you hear it. In other words, when we obey YHVH, we are offering worship to Him! Worship means more than just singing praises. But true worshipers of God also do what their God is telling them to do! ♥
