Deuteronomy chapters 6 through 11 teach us HOW to worship YHVH alone, and not have any other gods before Him; HOW to keep our hearts knit in love to His heart. In these chapters, I noticed four instructions Repeated over and over again:

We have no trouble realizing and receiving that every single one of our iniquities have been forgiven by YHVH. But it is just as true that every single one of our diseases has been healed by YHVH. Isn’t that what the true Word of God says? It is part of the benefits package, if you will, of being in covenant with YHVH our God.
Diseases are like Canaanites and giants, rising up to oppose us. God did not just twang the Canaanites and giants that Israel faced, and make them disappear so that Israel could possess their promise unopposed. They had to be strong and courageous, and possess their possession! Joshua – YESHUA – has given us that Promise(d Land) by His blood! Let us drive that Canaanite out and possess the health we have been given! (I am preaching to myself this morning)!

God hedged Paul in by his thorn, whatever it was, to protect him from going outside the boundary of humility and be ensnared by pride. God knew to do this for Paul, because God knew his going out and coming in–He knew his strengths and weaknesses, and what strategies the enemy would employ to try to cause his downfall. God winnowed certain things out of Paul’s path, and left certain things in Paul’s path. God then told him to be content with the grace that he had already received from Him, and to stop seeking Him to be free of his thorn.
(Both Psa 103 and 2 Cor 12 are true. God’s Word is like a pharmacy; the medicine for every ill is contained therein. In one season we will need one, and in another season we will need another; under the guiding hand of our Great Physician.)
