Read Exodus 2 at Bible Gateway.
The Hebrew paragraphs for this chapter:
2:1-22 {p} Moses, born to be Israel’s deliverer
2:23-25 {s} God acknowledged the children of Israel
Exodus 1:1-2:25 resolves into the following Chiastic Structure:
… with Exodus 2:1-10 as the central axis.
Why put neon flashing lights around this passage? In v. 2, ‘three’ jumped out at me (“… she hid him three months”), as it is the most common Sign of Messiah in Scripture. Notice:
In Exo 1:22, Moses, even though as yet unborn, was given a death sentence.
In Exo 2:2, Moses was hidden away unseen for three months.
In Exo 2:6-10, Moses was miraculously raised up to life, not death.
It’s a clear Prophetic Picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Messiah Yeshua, who was born to be the Deliverer of Israel.
Why This Matters: The first Strong Theme of Exodus ends after Exo 2:22, as Exo 2:23 begins the first {s} paragraph of a new topic. The paragraphs of this Strong Theme:
1:1-7 {p} The increase of the children of Israel
1:8-22 {p} The enemy tries to stop their increase by slavery and oppression
2:1-22 {p} The birth of Moses
Moses’ birth, which foreshadows Messiah Yeshua’s first advent, is tied by the Strong Theme to Israel’s oppression. Therefore:
1:1-2:22 {px3} Strong Theme: The deliverer born in response to Israel’s oppression
We can rest assured that God has prepared our own deliverance from the oppression of sin and the enemy far in advance!
