Exo 6:2-9 {p} YHVH reveals the meaning of His name by redemption
Original Hebrew
The above verses with the Hebrew names for God:
And Elohiym spoke to Moses and said to him: “I am Yehovah. And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as El Shaddai, but by My name Yehovah I was not known to them.” Exo 6:2-3
Elohiym is Strong’s H430; we have studied this word way back at the beginning of the year in Genesis 1. It’s fascinating story from the ancient Hebrew pictographs has its own entry in the index of Hebrew roots.
Yehovah is Strong’s 3068; we have also studied this word before. The personal name of God carries within it the prophecy of Messiah Yeshua as can be seen in its own entry in the index of Hebrew roots.
El Shaddai is Strong’s H410, El, “God,” + Strong’s H7706, Shaddai, “Almighty.” El comes into the explanation of Elohiym above and can be seen there. Shaddai is a concrete noun meaning, “Almighty;” itself from Strong’s H7703 שדד shadad, a primitive root meaning, “to be strong, powerful.” The ancient pictographs are shin + dalet + dalet.
shin ש = two front teeth, thus sharp, press, eat, two, again
dalet ד = the door, thus enter, move, hang
dalet ד = the door, thus enter, move, hang
The related words help us to find the story. Most of the related words have to do with the breast, thus the story is two (shin) that hang down (dalet). The repeating dalet intensifies the hanging down, so breasts that are dried up as with age. Thus, “to dry up, to shrivel,” i.e. “to lay waste, to violently destroy,” as only one extremely strong and powerful can do. El Shaddai also now has its own entry in the index of Hebrew roots.
This Exo 6:2-9 paragraph in the Hebrew Bible, more than any other, defines the meaning of “God” for us from the Hebrew root words. More coming tomorrow that is already blowing my mind!
