Strong theme
In each of these three plagues, YHVH increases His glory over the gods and magicians of Egypt. Each plague increases inconvenience to the Egyptians, but no harm comes to them. They are warning plagues teaching a people who do not know Him, who YHVH is (Exo 5:2).
2nd plague of frogs judged the frog goddesses of Egypt:
Was duplicated by the magicians, but could not be removed by the magicians;
3rd plague of gnats judged the earth god of Egypt (the plague came from the dust of the earth):
Was not duplicated by the magicians;
4th plague of flies judged the fly god of Egypt:
A distinction made between Egypt and Goshen, as there were no flies in Goshen.
