Genesis 38, Joseph and Judah among the pagans

I believe Judah had a guilty conscience and thought that he was not worthy of God. However, only the people who know they have done wrong, in whom the Spirit is working to convict of sin and righteousness (Joh 16:8), hide from God (Gen 3:8). The proud and arrogant shake their fist at Him and dare Him to strike them with lightning. Judah had removed himself from God’s plan, or so he thought, but God was not done with him yet!
Psalm 40, A Messianic psalm

David Stern in the Jewish New Testament Commentary writes, “[The phrase in Ps. 40:6] is usually understood to mean that God has opened (dug the wax out of) the ears so that he will be able to hear the Torah better, and thus be better able to carry out its commands.” True obedience to the Law is not bringing an endless string of sacrifices, because its commandments are constantly broken. Thus blood sacrifices, grain offerings God does not desire. What God does desire, is righteousness, steadfast love, and truth, so that there is no need for sacrifices.
Matthew 28, Faith in action
Additional studies: Matthew Index
So the Chiastic structure has an unusual central axis: the dread of the guards. It is highlighted, I believe, because God laid it on the women’s hearts to do a ministry: prepare the body of Jesus for burial. There were obstacles: appointed Sabbaths, a heavy stone; a Roman garrison. What chance do a few Jewish women have against a heavy stone or a Roman garrison? It seems foolish and impossible to even try. But, they tried anyway, because it was in their hearts to accomplish this ministry. Beloved, that is faith in action. They offered to God their five loaves and two fish, and God met them with a risen Savior and an angel. He overwhelmingly made up their lack to accomplish what He had placed on their hearts to accomplish. May we never allow intimidation to keep us from doing likewise!
