Today’s Old Testament chronological reading is in Genesis 49 and 50.
The Psalms/ Proverbs reading is in Psalm 46.
The New Testament reading is in Mark 4.
Today’s notes.
The Mark 4 reverse parallelism below is new for today, and differs from the Mark 4 chiastic structure in the previous studies.
And He said to them: “To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God, but to them that are outside, all these things are spoken in parables, 12 that in seeing they may see, and not perceive; and in hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.” Mar 4:11-12
Why would Yeshua not want anyone to understand, and be converted, that their sins should be forgiven them? He is speaking of the difference between those who are inside the kingdom of God, and those who are outside the kingdom of God. Now it is a fact that WISDOM, or, the ability to understand, cries aloud to every man:
1 Doesn’t wisdom cry out? Doesn’t understanding raise her voice?
2 On the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet, she stands.
3 Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entry doors, she cries aloud:
4 “I call to you men! I send my voice to the sons of mankind.
5 You simple, understand prudence! You fools, be of an understanding heart!
6 Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things.” Pro 8:1-6“I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me.” Pro 8:17
And here is the crux of the matter. Those who hear but do not understand, are there because they have already chosen to be there. They have heard wisdom cry out at the crossroads to every man, and have rejected her. They did not find her because they do not love her nor seek her. But everyone who loves her and seeks her, finds her.
And there is a way for the foolish to repent of their foolishness, but it involves the difficult circumstances of life which their foolishness brings upon them. When they cannot bear the pain any longer, if they begin to seek, they will find, so that when they hear, they will understand, be converted, and their sins forgiven them.
