Exodus 1 and 2, Moses prophesies of Messiah
Additional studies: Exodus Index
Reading the passage of the central axis, to see if I could discover why God would put neon flashing lights around it, the first thing I noticed was that Moses’ mother hid him for three months. Three – a sign of Messiah in Scripture! I was tempted at first to think it was merely a coincidence, but notice:
In Exo 1:22, Moses, even though as yet unborn, was given a death sentence.
In Exo 2:2, Moses was hidden away unseen for three months.
In Exo 2:6-10, Moses was miraculously raised up to life, not death.
Here we have a clear prophetic picture by type of the death, burial, and resurrection of Messiah, who was born to be the Deliverer of Israel!
Psalm 47, Sing praises to God
Additional studies: Psalms Book Two (42-72) Index
The parable being told by Hebrew Root Word is of plucking (zayin) that which the seed (nun) began (resh), i.e., to harvest fruit. The connection to making music is that in the ancient world, music was made through plucking the strings on a harp. How interesting is the connection between singing our praise to God, with harvesting fruit. When our lips render to Him the praise due His name, we are offering a fruitful harvest back to Him!
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. Heb 13:15
Romans 4, The example of Abraham’s faith
Additional studies: Romans Index
Third, God gave Abraham the command of circumcision (Gen 17:9-14). Notice that circumcision was a work which Abraham was required to perform. Even so, it was nevertheless a sign of his covenant status with God (Rom 4:11) which followed faith (as a wedding ring is a sign of the covenant status between a man and wife, which follows their entering into a love relationship) and not the cause of the relationship (as the wedding ring is not the cause of the love between a man and his wife in the first place).
