My question to the Father is, WHY? I know You have a reason, Father, for dividing this section up the way you have, and separating Miriam’s dance from the Moses’ song, and putting it together with no water, and no bread, but what is the reason? Because it is beyond human understanding to know it. And this was His answer:
15:1-19 {sx18+p} Strong theme: Song of Moses + praise for what YHVH has done
15:20-16:10 {sx3+p} Strong theme: Dance of Miriam + complaints for what YHVH has not done (yet)
Psalm 54, YHVH who upholds my soul

David cries out for YHVH to save (Strong’s H3467, ישע yasha) and vindicate (Strong’s H1777 דין diyn) him, as ruthless men have stood up, risen up, against him to oppose him. These ruthless men seek David’s soul (Strong’s H5315, נפש nephesh). It’s more than just seeking after his life, to end it. It’s seeking after his heart and courage, to end it; after his identity and confidence, to end it; after his mental power and emotional health, to end it.
Romans 9, The purpose of God according to election

There is a doctrinal debate in theological circles between election and free will. The example which Paul gives in this chapter is of YHVH hardening Pharaoh’s heart (vs. 17); does that mean He took away Pharaoh’s free will? God is sovereign, and men have free will. This is one of the Bible’s conundrums: two seeming opposites, so that to man’s finite way of thinking, they are contradictory (faith or works; grace or Law; the Spirit or the Word are a few examples). However, it is not one or the other. It is God’s sovereignty AND man’s free will; faith AND works; grace AND Law; the Spirit AND the Word: two sides of the same coin. God is so great, in fact, that He can act in perfect sovereignty while man still acts in perfect free will; so that through man’s free will, His will is accomplished in the earth. Pharaoh chose to harden his heart, and God chose to use that characteristic in him to show forth His great glory.
