I am digitizing my library, you know, in case a hurricane in the future requires us to evac immediately, and I will not have time to pack my library into 50 apple boxes.
John Ruskin’s Elements of Drawing and Perspective (Everyman’s Library First Editions)
The Erasmus of Rotterdam New Testament (Novum Testamentum)
Which Erasmus published in I believe it was 1516. This was the edition which Luther read which changed his life. As you can see, there was the Greek in one column, and a new Latin translation from it in the next column. I am pretty sure this is the first page of the Gospel of John. As to how this book survived: It is from the Princeton Theological Seminary Library, Rare Books. It was wonderful of them to make these scans available to the world. I don’t believe Erasmus’ edition was the final Textus Receptus edition. The TR edition was published in 1550. Still looking for that one. There are a ton of Novum Testamentum on archive dot org, Scrivener (who knew he was a Bible scholar?) published a reprint of the 1550 TR with explanatory notes in 1860, but after his death the original Scrivener notes were changed with references to the Westcott-Hort NT. When I find the 1860 edition I will let you know.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, 1894 first edition, from the New York Public Library. I love the New York Public Library books; they often have the most gorgeously decorated first editions! One day I will have a permanent library, and all the books will be beautiful LOL.
The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood by Howard Pyle
This is a first edition, with all of Howard Pyle’s original illustrations. One summer when we were camping in the national forest near Durango, it ended up raining for the entire week, and thus, because I had thought to pack a book just in case, I read this book to the family while it rained, and we were able to finish it that week. This was the same summer we saw the mother bear with her two cubs digging through the campground dumpsters.
I am still trying to unlock my Kindle books THAT I HAVE PAID FOR so I can save them on my library hard drive.
