We have been seeing elements of Jacob’s life repeat Isaac’s, with Isaac’s repeating Abraham’s. In fact, the lives of the patriarchs can form its own Chiastic Structure.
Why This Matters: Chiastic stuctures, as one of the thumbprints of God’s Spirit on the text of Scripture, indicate divine authorship. But not just divine authorship of the text. This chiastic structure also points to divine purpose and planning of the events of history as well: things are not just happening randomly.
He revealed to us the mystery of His will, according to His gracious purpose, which He set in motion in Himself, for the stewardship of the fullness of time, to unite all things in Christ—things in the heavens and the things upon the earth—in Him. Eph 1:9-10
God reigns from His throne with perfect precision and timing, orchestrating His purpose—not just in our individual lives, but for the entire world, and this despite every person having complete exercise of their own free will. You, my friend, are a vital note and chord in the master symphony God is composing, and we will be awestruck when the full concert resounds!
