Living in Bellvue on the homestead.
Sarah was raising dairy goats for 4-H; we had 3 kids that spring: Daisy and Tulip were the nannies, and Buckwheat was the billy. Sarah learned to milk goats and everything (once Daisy and Tulip were full grown and had their own kids. Daisy’s was stillborn, but a neighbor was raising cashmere goats and had a new kid which had been rejected by its momma, so she gave it to us for Daisy, and Tulip’s kid was Buttercup. We have more pictures somewhere …

She also made macrame jewelry. She grew the beets in the garden, cooked the beets down for the burgundy dye, boiled her macrame thread in the beet juice to dye it, and then made her jewelry from it. She won a blue ribbon and her project went to the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo. But Grandpa Herzog fell that August, and passed away, and the funeral was the same week as the State Fair. Sadly she wasn’t able to go.
