The structure shines a spotlight on the central axis: Noah did all that God commanded him. The result: he lived. Contrast this with Adam, who did not do as God commanded him, and his result: he died. Obedience is not an option! Also note, that God established His covenant with Noah, and in the execution of that covenant, He remembered Noah and did not forget him. He not only preserved him through judgment, but cared for him afterward as well. If you are walking in covenant with God today, He will not forget you but remember you! ♥
Psalm 4, Anxiety’s antithesis
Additional studies: Psalms Book One (1-41) Index
The answer to the psalmist’s prayer doesn’t involve any decrease in the world’s love for vanity or falsehood, nor in a change of outward circumstances. Rather, God puts gladness and peace in the godly man’s heart, so that he now sleeps securely rather than in anxious turmoil because of distress. While the sons of men trust their material increase (a fickle thing) for their security, the security of the psalmist rests in YHVH, who is constant, unflagging, and sure.
