Job 16 and 17, Job’s reply to Eliphaz
Additional studies: Job Index
Job’s present trials are a witness against him, the witness his friends have latched on to. Yet, in the midst of them, he declares, My Witness – that witness which is testifying truth about me and my current state – is in heaven. There is a witness on earth, and in heaven, and when they disagree, then latch on to the One which is testifying truth! For the righteous will get stronger.
Psalm 14, Zion, the city of God
Additional studies: Psalms Book One (1-41) Index
The city of God is not named Jerusalem but Zion. To understand why, consider the Teaching Tool of Natural Pictures. Jerusalem is the natural city, the capital city of David, thus of Israel, and Zion is the spiritual city, the capital city of the kingdom of God, with Messiah its King. The earthly Jerusalem, Yeshua lamented, kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her (Mat 23:37). The earthly Jerusalem is unwilling to be gathered under YHVH’s wings. Anyone who has come to Yeshua for salvation is reborn as a citizen of the kingdom of God, and its capital city, Zion.
Matthew 10, He who loses his life will save it
Additional studies: Matthew Index
The context is telling us, that if, in order to preserve our life from being delivered up, from being persecuted, from being hated by all, and from being at odds with even our own family, we water down the Gospel message to make it acceptable to the world, then we will have ultimately lost our life when the Son of Man comes. We have preserved the comfort of our life and body on this side of heaven at the expense of the eternity of our soul on that side of heaven.
