Essential Studies.
Job 29 and 30, Outline of the first part of the book
Additional studies: Job Index
I have been working on the outline for the whole book of Job, for I believe we are now in the 2nd half of the whole book chiastic structure. Since the three friends basically make the same argument over and over again, we might find their arguments counting as a single element, forming a subchiasm within the larger one of the whole book. I believe Job’s discourse following the turning point of the book will also form a subchiasm, but we will see when we have tomorrow’s chapters to add to it.
Psalm 20, Trust in His name
Additional studies: Psalms Book One (1-41) Index
We remember that YHVH is the name of God–which means, “The hand, behold! The nail, behold!” Look at the nails which pierced My hands as I hung on the cross, to see the lengths that I will go for you–when we need help, support, and saving strength in our circumstances, precisely because we are in covenant with Him. Because of that covenant, while others may look to their chariots and horses, we look to YHVH our God, the One who saves by His mighty right arm.
Matthew 14, Going outside our comfort zone
Additional studies: Matthew Index
Heidi Baker is a good example. She and her husband are missionaries in Madagascar, and have built orphanages all through the country. She was comfortable expressing compassion and alleviating suffering like that. But then God told her to start raising the dead. So from obedience, for the next year, every dead person she saw, she laid hands on them and commanded them to live in the name of Jesus. And none of them did. But God had given her a command, and she fulfilled her part. Actually making them live, was God’s part. She concerned herself with her part, and let God concern Himself with His part. In the second year, they started getting up and living! We serve a big God, and because He is moved with compassion, He wants to do big things. Let us not limit Him by our comfort level. Let us be believers, and place our trust in Him, and do our part, so that as He wills, He can do His part.
