Joh 18:29-19:16a, Jesus’ trial before Pilate chiastic structure:
1a) Joh 18:29-40, The Jews brought Jesus before Pilate/ they delivered Him to him for a death sentence;
1a) Joh 18:29-32, Pilate went out to the Jews: What is your accusation/ They called for a death sentence;
central axis) Joh 18:33-38, Pilate questioned Jesus/ Jesus bore witness to His kingship;
1a.1) Joh 18:33, Pilate called Jesus: Are You the King of the Jews;
1a.2) Joh 18:34, Jesus: Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me;
1a.3) Joh 18:35, Pilate: Am I a Jew? What have You done;
1b) Joh 18:36a, Jesus: My kingdom is not of this world;
central axis) Joh 18:36b, “If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews;”
2b) Joh 18:36c, Jesus: But now My kingdom is not from here;

Joh 19:16b-42, Jesus’ crucifixion and burial chiastic structure:
1a) Joh 19:16b, So they took Jesus and led Him away;
1b) Joh 19:17-22, They crucified Him on a cross at the Place of a Skull (that is, Golgotha);
1a) Joh 19:17a, And He, bearing His cross;
1b) Joh 19:17b, Went out to the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha;
2b) Joh 19:18, Where they crucified Him, and two others with Him;
2a) Joh 19:19-22, Pilate wrote His accusation on the cross: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS;
1c) Joh 19:23-24, The soldiers cast lots for His clothes, that the Scripture might be fulfilled;

2c) Joh 19:28-30b, Jesus received the sour wine, that the Scripture might be fulfilled;
2b) Joh 19:30c, And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit;
2a) Joh 19:31-42, So they took Jesus and laid Him in a new tomb;
1a) Joh 19:31a, Because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath;
1b) Joh 19:31b-32, The Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, that they might be taken away;
1c) Joh 19:33-34, But since Jesus was already dead, they did not break His legs, but pierced His side with a spear;
central axis) Joh 19:35, “And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe;”
2c) Joh 19:36-37, For these things – legs not broken + pierced – were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled;
2b) Joh 19:38-41, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus + laid Him in a new tomb;
2a) Joh 19:42, There they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.
