Joshua 23:1-16 Chiastic Structure:
The central axis, Joshua’s admonition to be very courageous, seems to be a matching pair with,
Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the Law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. Jos 1:7
“To be very courageous” is the same verb in both places, Strong’s H2388 חזק chazaq, “to strengthen, to uphold.”
Joshua had good success everywhere he went, as the end of the book testifies. And how it happened, was to not deviate from the right hand or from the left from the Law of Moses. In reality, the Law of Moses is the Law of God; Moses received it from God’s mouth, and did not write whatever came out of his own mind.
And Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that YHVH has sent me to do all these works, and that I have not done them of my own mind.” Num 16:28
