Joshua 3:7-4:24 Chiastic Structure:
This chapter is a close repeat of the last one, and what I have been asking myself, is why do the two chapters together, in the Chiastic Structure, have a partial of vs. 4:12 as the central axis? Why does the Spirit shine a spotlight on that fragment?
Now that Moses is gone, his words, which are YHVH’s words, spoken at the command of YHVH, are still obeyed. It is not Moses, ultimately, who is being obeyed, but YHVH. The Scripture many times highlights that YHVH’s words and His commands are eternal and unchanging.
One ordinance shall be for you of the assembly and for the stranger who dwells with you, an ordinance forever throughout your generations; as you are, so shall the stranger be before YHVH. Num 15:15
And the statutes, the ordinances, the law, and the commandment which He wrote for you, you shall be careful to observe forever; you shall not fear other gods. 2 Kin 17:37
Remember His covenant forever, the word which He commanded, for a thousand generations .. 1 Chr 16:15
The words of YHVH are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
You shall keep them, O YHVH, You shall preserve them from this generation forever. Psa 12:6-7The works of His hands are verity and justice; all His precepts are sure.
They stand fast forever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. Psa 111:7-8Forever, O YHVH, Your word is settled in heaven. Psa 119:89
The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting; give me understanding, and I shall live. Psa 119:144
The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever. Psa 119:160
For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the Law till all is fulfilled. Mat 5:18
