The ephod is a garment unique to the priesthood. It served as the backdrop for the remembrance stones, engraved with the names of the twelve tribes, to be borne before YHVH continually whenever the high priest ministered in the Holy Place. The Hebrew Root Word parable for Strong’s H646, אפד ephod is of powerful (aleph) redemption; portrayed by an opened (pey) door (dalet). When someone is redeemed from slavery, the door that once held them captive is flung wide so they can walk out free.
