Hebrew root words.
Exo 33:12 to find Strong’s H4672 מצא matsa, a primitive root meaning, “to find, attain to.” The 3-letter root is mem + tsadey + aleph.
mem מ ם = the water, thus chaos, mighty, blood
tsadey צ ץ = the trail, thus a man concealed, journey, chase, hunt
aleph א = the ox head, thus strength, power, leader
The cognate words will help us find the story. “Squeeze,” “extort,” “suck,” even “unleavened,” are all cognate, as mighty (mem) sides (tsadey, as a hunter lying in wait on the trail is on his side, not upright) apply strong pressure (aleph) to bring something hidden, forward. The connection to unleavened bread is fascinating. A baby sucks his mother’s milk by the mighty sides of his mouth applying strong pressure to bring the hidden milk from her breast, forward into his mouth. Breast milk is sweet. Leavened bread has been soured due to the action of yeast, as in sourdough; whereas leavened bread is sweet.
Exo 33:12 grace Strong’s H2580, chen, an abstract concept meaning “grace,” from Strong’s H2603 חנן chanan, a primitive root meaning, “to be inclined toward, to be favorably inclined.” The 3-letter root is chet + nun + nun.
chet ח = the wall, thus outside, divide, half
nun נ ן = the seed, thus continue, heir, son
nun נ ן = the seed, thus continue, heir, son
The story: The wall (chet) which continues (nun) benefits the children (nun). In ancient days the family tents of the clan were arranged in a large circle, forming a wall. This circular wall, a wall which continues, enclosed the area of safety for the children of the clan within. This was their home: a place of safety, beauty, favor, and lovingkindness. According to the Ancient Hebrew Lexicon, the English word “home” is from the ch-n root, transposing the m sound for the n over time.
The vast majority of times “grace,” chen, is found in the Hebrew testament, it is in the phrase to find or to have found grace or favor; in Esther, to have obtained favor. What does it mean for us to have found grace, as told by the ancient Hebrew? The strong action of YHVH drew us, who were hidden, forward, to become His children within His encircling wall, His home: a place of safety, beauty, favor, and lovingkindness.
Exo 33:12-16 {p} Chiastic structure.
His presence among us distinguishes us from all other peoples on the face of the earth. It is Bible normal for us to stand out and not blend in to the world. And what happens when His presence is found with us?
How God anointed Yeshua of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him. Act 10:38
I am in a new renewal of seeking His face, the place of His presence. We don’t have to work up the gifts of the Spirit or His power. As we dwell in His presence, He attends us, with His characteristic gifts and power, to do good, to heal, and to set free. Isaiah 61:1-3.
