When we sin in unfaithfulness against YHVH and do not confess it, as the unfaithful wife sins and keeps her unfaithfulness a secret, then YHVH becomes jealous over His people, as the husband becomes jealous. Confession and repentance reveals a heart wholly separated to Him, and fully devoted to Him. The law of the jealous husband is at the heart of the narrative concerning separation, consecration, and dedication of YHVH’s holy things to Himself! ♥

In the Chiastic structure, the matching pair for 82:1a, “standing in the midst of the mighty,” is found in 82:6-7, where even the JPS translates elohiym as “godlike beings,” that is, as something other than the one true God, as the Context clearly demands. Notice also that in the 1A.1 pair, God stands, as Contrasted to the mighty in the 2A.1 pair, who fall.

So in the Hebraic way of thinking, the family–parents, siblings, wife, children, extended family and tribal clan–is a gift chosen for him and given to him by God. Thus the verbal root of הב hey + bet means to give. The concrete noun from it means a gift. The abstract concept from it means the love and protectiveness which is inspired in the heart for one’s cherished gifts; i.e., one’s family. The addition of the א aleph, the ox head (strength, power, or leadership) onto the root intensifies, not only the emotion of love and protectiveness which is felt in the heart, but also the action one takes as a result of feeling that love.
