The Hebrew paragraphs:
10:1-10 {p} Law of the two silver trumpets
10:11-28 {s} 2nd year, 2nd month, 20th day, Israel broke camp in order
10:29-34 {s} Moses entreats his father-in-law to journey with them
10:35-36 {p} Moses’ blessing when the ark set out and rested
The Law of the Two Silver Trumpets is the central axis of the following Num 8:1-12:16 Chiastic Structure:
So far in Scripture, trumpets:
1) Have announced the coming of YHVH, Exo 19-20;
2) Are blown as a memorial (pay attention to the Repetition) on the Feast of Trumpets, Lev 23:23-25;
3) Are blown to announce the Jubilee year on the Day of Atonement, Lev 25:9.
To this list we add today’s reading, where the silver trumpets are blown:
1) To call together the congregation or the leaders;
2) To sound the advance of the journeying of Israel;
3) As an alarm when going out to war, for remembrance before God;
4) As a joyful sound in days of gladness, feast days, and new moons, for a memorial before God.
When we see that in the history of Israel, the trumpet blast was sounded to gather together the congregation, to announce the coming of the LORD, and the coronation of a new king, we are anticipating the trumpet blast at the return of Messiah Yeshua with acute joy!
Might the two silver trumpets be a Prophetic Type of the two witnesses of Ephraim and Judah, when their sound (their witness) is in harmony and blown together? It might!
