Well, the depression glass and antique china from the china cabinet is almost all packed. Also my candle closet. I am only taking the candle holders, no candles. I realized at the last minute that we are driving three days through the South. Candles in a hot van will melt, duh! So Steffie, I have filled a whole apple box with Yankee candles and pillars and tapers and votives and tea lights, and it is yours, hon, if you want it. Also, I am hoping the children can come over Sunday, or sometime very soon, to take home the toys they want to keep. I could use the toy trunks to pack things in. Dad has been scouring the dumpsters of stores for good boxes, and all of our Albert Bierstadt and Charles Wysocki paintings are boxed. Now that the fall holidays are over, I want to get the books packed by the end of the weekend. Then I can tackle my sewing and the kitchen …
People are coming starting today to see our things. Dad listed a lot of our furniture on Craig’s List. I am only taking my bedroom set, office, and heirloom pieces. Everything else we will have to get in Sarasota! Aunt Anne tells me the place to go is Goodwill. Since there are so many elderly in Florida, when someone passes away, their children usually donate the furniture so as to be done with it, and nice quality things are constantly in the Goodwill.
And, Mike comes in one week from today! I can’t wait to see him!
About the loose ends: we are meeting at Olive Garden tonight at 5 pm for a family dinner, our last chance seeing the extended family before Ballingers leave for vacation. Carricks and Sarah are of course welcome. Tomorrow Sarah is getting baptized at church, at the 6 pm service. Everyone is welcome! I am taking pictures!
And Sarah is for sure going out to Florida with us. Yippee! She has been wanting to relocate for years, and I knew she was supposed to come! She is going to room with Mike until everyone is on their feet. I guess I will ride with Dad in the moving van, and Mike and Sarah will spell each other driving the car. We have walkie talkies so we can keep in touch with each other, and I am packing two coolers, one for each vehicle. Banana bread, fruit, deviled eggs, chicken salad sandwiches, brownies, baby carrots, orange juice, water, yogurt, cheese and crackers, trail mix, and whatever else I can think of which will be easy to eat while driving. We won’t have to spend money for food on the road!
