Write the truth trainer down on a 3×5 card, thus:
I feel ___________, but it is only a feeling brought on by my past. It is not a true reflection of my current reality. My reality is determined by the Word of God, and this what it says:
___________ (Scripture) ____________.
This way it can be used for any negative feeling, with any appropriate Scripture. Also write the Scriptures down on 3×5 cards. Take the 3×5 cards with you where ever you go. Especially in the beginning, if you feel overwhelmed with the negative feeling you are working on, nothing has to be left to memory. You can take the cards out and read them.
I worked on training one feeling at a time. I found 6 to 8 Scriptures which affirmed each truth. If I was under assault by negative feelings, I would read all my Scriptures on that topic, outloud to myself, over several times again if necessary until the negative feeling went away. In the beginning, this meant I was reading Scriptures outloud to myself all day long. That’s okay: faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Faith, belief, bricks in the stronghold of truth, were being built up in the core of my being each time I heard the word of God.
Consistent, determined assault and discipline is the key to success. A person should notice improvement in the diminishing frequency of negative feelings asserting themselves by the end of the first week. I developed a Scripture study plan for myself, though, that I followed while engaged in stronghold-building and stronghold-demolition, just to make a sure thing more certain …
(I used 3×5 cards as I was training my feelings in the days before cell phones, which was even 15 years before I first wrote out this series in 2005, really still before the days of cell phones, LOL. Now, if I were new to this, I would keep this info in my Memos on my phone, with a backup notebook of the Scriptures at home, in case anything happened to my phone.)
