Pray for Israel on Tisha B’Av

The Ninth of Av begins this evening at sunset – a fast day in Israel, for on the Ninth day of the Jewish month of Av:

The twelve spies returned from spying out the land of Canaan in 1490 bc; ten spies gave an evil report, resulting in Israel wandering in the wilderness for 40 years;
The destruction of Solomon’s Temple and exile of the Jews at the hands of the Babylonians in 586 bc;
The destruction of Herod’s Temple and Jerusalem at the hands of the Romans in 70 ad – yes, both Temples were destroyed on the exact same date in history;
Bar Kochba’s revolt against Rome failed when he was killed in 135 ad, and the Jews were expelled from Judea;
King Edward I expelled the Jews from England in 1290;
Hitler ordered the preparations for the Final Solution in 1941;
The first transports filled with Jews reached the Nazi extermination camps in 1942;
The extermination of the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto began in 1942.
