6:16-19 {p} Seven abominations to YHVH
6:20-26 {p} Treasure the Torah; it will keep you from destruction wearing a beautiful face
6:27-35 {p} Adultery destroys a fool’s life
Proverbs 5:1-6:35 makes a Chiastic Structure:
Over and over in Proverbs we are instructed to keep the commandment of our Father (Pro 6:20); to receive His words, to treasure up His commandments (Pro 2:1); to pay attention to His words of wisdom (Pro 5:1). Of course we should do so with our earthly father’s wisdom too, but how much more the pure wisdom of our heavenly Father, contained in His Word?
Keeping the commandment of our Father is the same as delivering ourselves (B pair), for
The commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light, and the reproofs of instruction are the way of life. Pro 6:23
But disregarding, forgetting, or forsaking His commandments are the way of death, for the foolish man who has not heeded shall die for lack of instruction (Pro 5:23). It’s not that the foolish are not told instruction; it’s that they disdain it when they hear it. Because they refuse to heed it, they perish needlessly.
