1a) Psa 119:81-82, My soul faints/ my eyes fail:
81 My soul faints for Your salvation, But I hope in Your word;
82 My eyes fail from searching Your word, Saying, “When will You comfort me?”
1b) Psa 119:83-85, I did not forget Your statutes:
1a) Psa 119:83, For I have become like a wineskin in smoke, Yet I do not forget Your statutes;
1b) Psa 119:84a, How many are the days of Your servant?
2b) Psa 119:84b, When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?
2a) Psa 119:85, The proud have dug pits for me, Which is not according to Your law;
2b) Psa 119:86-87, I did not forsake Your precepts:
1a) Psa 119:86a, All Your commandments are faithful;
1b) Psa 119:86b, They persecute me wrongfully;
central axis) Psa 119:86c, Help me!
2b) Psa 119:87a, They almost made an end of me on earth;
2a) Psa 119:87b, But I did not forsake Your precepts;
2a) Psa 119:88, Revive me according to Your lovingkindness, so that I may keep the testimony of Your mouth. {p}
There are so many interesting comparisons and contrasts in this section of the Psalm:
A pair: My soul faints, my eyes fail / Revive me!
When will you comfort me / according to Your lovingkindness;
I hope in Your word / I keep Your testimony.
Oh! There is the pairing of faith and obedience again!
B pair: How many are my days / How many are my persecutors’ days (When will you execute judgment?);
I do not forget Your statutes / They have forgotten Your law (they do not do according to Your law);
All Your commandments are faithful / I did not forsake Your precepts (I have been faithful to Your commandments).
