KING Strong’s H4428 מלך melek, a concrete object meaning, “king;” from Strong’s H4427 מלך malak, a primitive root meaning, “to reign.” The 3-letter root is mem + lamed + kaph.
mem מ ם = the water, thus chaos, mighty, blood
lamed ל = the shepherd’s staff, thus teach, yoke, to, bind
kaph כ ך = the open palm, thus bend, open, allow, tame
The story: The mighty (mem, but may also carry the meaning of a blood line) who use their authority (lamed) to bless (kaph). We know from history that the bloodline kings used their authority to oppress, but this parable explains the duty of a king as it should be.
TO TRUST Strong’s H982 בטח batach, a primitive root meaning, “to trust.” The 3-letter root is bet + tet + chet.
bet ב = the house, thus house, household, family, in, within
tet ט = the basket, thus surround, contain, hold, mud
chet ח = the wall, thus outside, divide, half
The story: The family (bet) surrounded by (tet) the wall (chet). The abstract concept from this verbal root is security, because the family is secure within its house.

MERCY Strong’s H2617 חסד chesed, the abstract concept of “mercy,” from the primitive root Strong’s H2616 חסד chasad, “to show lovingkindness.” The 3-letter root is chet + sin + dalet.

sin ס = thorn, thus grab, hate, protect
dalet ד = door, thus enter, move, hang
The story: The wall (chet) of protection (sin) behind which one allows others to shelter when the door (dalet) is opened.
TO BE (NOT) MOVED Strong’s H4131 מוט mowt, a primitive root meaning, “to totter or shake.” The 3-letter root is mem + vav + tet.

The story: Mem (water) added (vav) within (tet, as a basket’s contents are contained within it). One of the cognate words from this root is a green branch, as a green branch contains water within it. Something green is still flexible; it can be shaped to the desired shape and then left to dry. Once the water is removed it is no longer flexible, it retains its shape, or becomes unmoving. To be moved is to be shaken as a green branch is shaken in the wind.
Have the events of the past years moved or shaken your faith? When we trust in YHVH and in His mercy, we are not moved. YHVH has made certain promises, and confirmed them as the word of His mouth. Our faith only becomes shipwrecked when we attach our own dates to those promises, and then proclaim Him unfaithful when He works according to His own perfect timing. Trust in YHVH includes trust in His timing as well!
