Read Psalm 23 at Bible Gateway.
We saw that “He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters” paired with “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies + anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.” How do these pair?
First of all, isn’t it interesting that He makes me to lie down in green pastures. I don’t think, on our own, we recognize the good and green pasture, the best place to feed and be nourished. We are like kids crying for junk food and candy, when our mom wants to give us organic fruits and veggies, LOL. Moreover, we have to learn to rest and lie down, and let the Good Shepherd be the Good Shepherd, and stop trying to run/ fix/ solve/ control everything ourselves. We have to learn to be content with still, peaceful, quiet, untroubled waters.
When we reach that place in our lives, where we have accepted the shepherdship, guidance, leading and wisdom of the Good Shepherd, where we trust Him when He says, “This is green pasture, rest here,” or “This is a rocky cliff edge, come back,” or “Stop fretting and let go, because you can trust that I have got this,” then we find that when we let Him shepherd, and follow Him with contentment, we find ourselves at a feast, being honored, while our enemies look on; we find ourselves promoted with greater gifts, ability, and authority; we find His increased presence in our day to day lives.
In short, we find that His purpose in teaching us to trust Him, was to fill our cup to overflowing. ♥
