Hear the voice of my supplications
When I cry to You
When I lift up my hands
toward Your holy sanctuary. Psa 28:2
I couldn’t help but notice what the hands are doing in this psalm! The hands of David are lifted up in supplication to the LORD, who is his strength, his shield, and his saving refuge! Meanwhile, the hands of the wicked are busy working wickedness, not regarding the works of the LORD, nor the operation of His hands.
The works of the LORD, is in Hebrew, the recompense, reward, or wages of the LORD. The operation of His hands, is in Hebrew, the deeds or acts of His hands. The wicked work wickedness with their hands, because they do not realize or regard that the LORD rewards both the righteous and the wicked for their works in this life – the righteous is rewarded with good for his righteous works, while the wicked is rewarded with destruction for his wicked works! The wicked does not realize or regard that the LORD is able, by the deeds of His hands, to destroy him and not build them up.
Is this psalm preaching works of righteousness for salvation? No! The righteous still need to lift their supplications to the LORD. Their heart still needs to trust in Him! It is the LORD who is their strength and their saving refuge, not their works!
