Read Psalm 84 at Bible Gateway.
This is the amazing pattern I found this morning::
1a) Psa 84:1-4, The lovlieness of the Lord’s dwelling place:
1a) Psa 84:1, How lovely is Your tabernacle, O Lord of hosts!
1b) Psa 84:2a, My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the Lord; {n}
— Psa 84:2b, My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God;
2b) Psa 84:3a, Even the sparrow has found a home, And the swallow a nest for herself, Where she may lay her young— {n}
— Psa 84:3b, Even Your altars, O Lord of hosts, My King and my God;
2a) Psa 84:4, Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; They will still be praising You. Selah
1b) Psa 84:3-7, Blessed is the man whose strength is in You:
1a) Psa 84:5, Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways;
1b) Psa 84:6a, As they pass through the Valley of Baca, They make it a place of springs; {n}
2b) Psa 84:6b, The rain also covers it with pools;
2a) Psa 84:7 They go from strength to strength; Each one appears before God in Zion.
central axis) Psa 84:8a, O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; {n}
— Psa 84:8b, Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah
2a) Psa 84:9-11, The excellence of the Lord’s courts;
1a) Psa 84:9, Behold, O God our shield, And look upon the face of Your anointed;
1b) Psa 84:10a, For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. {n}
2b) Psa 84:10b, I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness;
2a) Psa 84:11, For the Lord God is a sun + shield; {n} The Lord will give grace + glory; {n} No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly.
2b) Psa 84:12, O Lord of hosts, Blessed is the man who trusts in You! {p}
I discovered something interesting about the 1B pair (vs. 3-7). First of all, what does it mean, “in whose heart are the highways”? I think it is being used in the same context as in Proverbs:
The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns, But the way of the upright is a highway. Pro 15:19
The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul. Pro 16:17
The way of the upright is a highway of righteousness, the way of walking and living out your daily life in accordance with the paths and ways of the Lord. So, he in whose heart are the highways, is he who has internalized the righteous paths and ways of the Lord, and lives accordingly. (Anyone can learn the Lord’s paths and ways — He describes them in Torah, His revealed reference of righteous and wicked acts.)
This man, for whom the Lord is his strength, and in whose heart are the highways of the upright, when he passes through the Valley of Baca, he makes it a place of springs. The Valley of Baca means in Hebrew, “the valley of weeping.” Instead of the water coming from the rivers of tears from the sorrow of the people, the water now comes, like rivers of living water, from the goodness and blessing of the Lord upon the people, when a man in whose heart are the highways brings justice, alleviates suffering, supplies the poor and needy with bread, and, just as our Messiah Yeshua, goes about doing good, and healing all the oppressions of the devil. This is the fruit of Torah lived out in a life, for it is the Law of Love.
