I have spoken before of the battle we have been in as a family, not with flesh and blood. Everyone who is a Christian is in that battle. Some might not realize it, though. A little while ago the Lord told us not to believe everything that we would hear, but that the enemy was trying to deceive us about something. Shortly after that, conflicting reports about something important did make it to our ears, and it was critical for us to know what was the truth and what was the lie.
Thank the Lord for the Spirit of truth, who leads us into all truth!
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
This is another way of saying, “You will know them by their fruit.” Testing what is from the world, and therefore the enemy, and what is from God, has been of critical help for us in navigating the truth from the lie as we continue standing on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ in this battle. I am so grateful that the Lord does not leave us to war alone, but His Spirit fights with us and for us!
