Our kids are in Colorado this year for Thanksgiving, (Be sure to help wash dishes, children!) So on Thursday, we are smoking a turkey on the grill (and by “we,” I mean Dad) smoked over pear and pecan wood. Grandma and Grandpa are coming over, and so are Aunt Anne and her family. Dad is making his famous stuffing. I am making caramelized onion dip, and pastry wrapped brie with fig preserves to serve with crackers, turkey gravy, creamed onions, potato rolls and pumpkin pie. Aunt Anne is bringing mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, butternut squash, and more pie, whether homemade or from Yoder’s we don’t know yet, but it will be something good anyway. Grandma is bringing fruit salad and cranberry mold salad and homemade cranberry sauce.
There will only be seven of us and there will be more things to eat than people, LOL.
On Friday we are going to Grandma and Grandpa’s, now that the remodeling is done, and Grandma and I are making a big stock pot of turkey soup. The family is coming over to play games (John and Denise’s family included! It will be the first time we have seen them since Father’s Day!). I am also bringing pumpkin bread and pecan pie bars – I thought that might go nicely with soup.
I have our traditional Thanksgiving menu with links to recipes posted here in case anyone in Colorado needs them. I want to also try these recipes sometime too, but I decided against experimenting on company, LOL:
aunt kellie’s apple cider roast turkey
chipotle mashed sweet potatoes
cranberry sauce
pear and cranberry linzer tart
thanksgiving pound cake
Bobby Flay’s pumpkin bread pudding – from the Throwdown episode. The Pioneer Woman said this was really really good, and her 11-year old daughter made it completely from scratch the other day without help. So it can’t be too hard, LOL.
Tuesday I am finishing my grocery shopping and cleaning. Wednesday and Thursday it will be bake bake bake and cook cook cook. I WILL remember to take pictures of the food for the recipe blog, I will, I will!
