The Fourth Purpose

John Taylor Gatto is working with an award-winning director on the documentary series, The Fourth Purpose (Broken link, active September 21, 2005). The first documentary will explore what is wrong with public schools today; the second the history of compulsory schooling and how our public schools got in the mess they’re in; and the third, alternatives to compulsory schooling and what the American people can do to help solve the problem. Of course, they are being funded by no one in the traditional media and movie business, so they still have a ways to go. They are taking donations if regular folks like us want to help them get their movie made. John Taylor Gatto discusses the fourth, hidden purpose of the public school system in his excellent book, Underground History of American Education.
