I have been meditating on this passage in 1 Kings in my prayer journal. It is part of the Shabbat Prophetic scriptures for the past month (yes, I have been working on that!) and my attention was drawn to it because it seemed so out of place among the other scriptures that surrounded it.
Do you notice three times a destructive catastrophe happens: a mighty wind great enough to break rocks in pieces, then an earthquake, then a fire. Three destructive catastrophes – three being the number of Messiah, highlighting the teaching tool that a passage is being prophetic of Messiah. And three times the Scripture repeats, “the LORD was not in the wind … the earthquake … the fire.”
The LORD was not in the destruction.
Where was He? In the still, small voice. It brings this to mind:
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Joh 3:17
We have this God is angry and judgmental mindset, drilled into us by the world, with the Church in full cooperation. But is that what the Scriptures say? Hmmm …
