Read 1 Corinthians 12-14 at Bible Gateway.
These three chapters should be read together as a single unit, because Paul is teaching a single theme: that which is of the Spirit, to edify the Body.
1 corinthians 12: that which is of the Spirit follows a prescribed path (2011)
1 corinthians 13: the Father’s love (2011)
1 corinthians 14: love identifies the Spirit and the effect of the Spirit (2011)
1 corinthians 12-14: chiastic structure with central axis of love (2009)
1 corinthians 12-14: the gift of tongues in proper operation is not opposed to sound teaching or truth (2010)
Now Pentecost, or the Feast of Weeks, or Shavuot, falls this Sunday! On this day, the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit were poured out onto the Church (Act 2). Also on this day, Moses received the Ten Commandments written with the finger of God on two tablets of stone (Exo 19-20). The post above, that which is of the Spirit follows a prescribed path, goes into more detail on the teaching in 1 Cor 12-14, the gifts of the Spirit, and the feast day of Pentecost which we are celebrating this weekend!
