Amos 3 and 4, When kindness does not inspire repentance
Additional studies: Amos Index
We have been highlighting ever since Genesis, the grace, mercy, love, and longsuffering of YHVH. But no one should mistake YHVH’s kindness for weakness – His kindness is meant to bring us to repentance and return (Rom 2:4). If we make our necks stiff and harden our hearts, and refuse to return as Israel refused to return, then one day the longsuffering will come to an end and we will call forth judgment upon ourselves.
Psalm 45, The King in His majesty; the Queen in her beauty
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Two: Psalms 42-72 Index
And please notice that righteousness and joy are not mutually exclusive characteristics. But because the King has loved righteousness and hated wickedness, He was anointed with the oil of joy above all His companions. Righteousness and joy, like mercy and truth, often appear together in the Scriptures and are sisters; they walk together holding hands. You cannot desire one without desiring the other. ♥
Galatians 1, Harmony of the Scriptures
Additional studies: Galatians Index
Paul was three years in the desert, studying the Scriptures (the Hebrew Testament), to see how what he had seen and experienced fit with what the Scriptures said. Because Paul knew the principle that we also are using in our Scripture study: if Jesus was the true Messiah, then the written Word, the Hebrew Testament, would not contradict that truth, but would confirm it. While he was there, Jesus Himself revealed the gospel of grace to Paul from the Torah and the Hebrew Testament, and opened the Scriptures to him. No man taught him, but he learned what he learned from the written Word and the living Word.
