The gracious and merciful YHVH, longsuffering who forgives iniquity and sin, provided a deliverer, a helper, and a savior for Israel, when they did not deserve deliverance, help, or salvation. The history of Israel prophesies of the gospel of the kingdom and the ministry of Messiah Yeshua, who delivered, helped, and saved us while we were yet sinners, and enemies toward YHVH our God (Rom 5:6-11).
Psalm 49, Chiastic structure
Additional studies: Psalms, Book Two: Psalms 42-72 Index
I just started reading The Literary Structure of the Old Testament by David A. Dorsey. Even though there are some limitations in its usefulness (although he knows about the Hebrew paragraph divisions, he thinks they were put in place by later editors, and therefore ignores their value as the Holy Spirit’s helpful guide in uncovering the chiastic structures embedded in the text), I have learned some things about the different patterns found in the Psalms. Galatians 3, Justification and works
Additional studies: Galatians Index
Paul is not saying that faith is opposed to the Law (torah). He just finished saying that Abraham is the father of those who are of faith, and of Abraham God said that he obeyed His voice, and kept His charge, His commandments, His statutes, and His law (torah, Gen 26:5). But what Paul is saying, is that the flesh is opposed to the Spirit (Jer 31:31-33, Eze 36:25-27). He is saying that since the New Covenant, obedience to the Law is a work of the Spirit. Men who have been baptized in the Spirit, are now compelled from the inside, by their own reborn new nature, and by love of the Lord God, to obey Him (Joh 14:15). But to do something which you were not convicted to do, just because some Jews came and told you that if you didn’t, you could have no salvation in Jesus, that is a work of the flesh.
