Daniel 9, And the Abomination of Desolation

Dan 9 contains one of the most misunderstood prophecies in the Bible, concerning the seventy weeks of Daniel and the abomination of desolation. Jesus mentions this prophecy in Mar 13, in relation to the time of His coming. So it is important that we understand Daniel, in order to understand Jesus. Proverbs 5, Inclining the Ear to Wisdom

The Hebrew Root Word parable for “to incline:” As the squash (nun + tet) extends its vines outward, so the man extends outward (hey, in the sense of the man’s arms extended outward) to spread abroad. How does one get inclining the ear from that? Have you ever seen a cartoon where the character is trying to listen to a whispered conversation, and his ear grows bigger in that direction, to indicate that he is very closely paying attention so as to catch every word? That is the parable being painted: to “extend out” the ear. In Pro 2:2, “… incline your heart to understanding …” the verb is the same; “extending out” the heart, to receive every word and not miss a single one.

In chapter 5, the scroll containing the history of political and spiritual world between the first and second comings of the Messiah, written before any of it had happened, is introduced. We shall see that all the events of the history to come are contained in the scroll, for the seventh seal contains seven trumpets, and the seventh trumpet contains seven bowls of wrath … so the scroll contains seals, trumpets, and bowls.
