So the central axis of the chiastic structure concerns the non-Israelites who returned with the Jews to Judah to rebuild the Temple: they were included with “all whose spirits God had moved.” Why would this be the central axis? Because God is making for Himself one people, both Gentiles and Jews, who respond to the movement of His Spirit on their hearts, and who seek His face. There is one God, one faith, one Torah for all, one Messiah, and one people. ♥
Proverbs 7, Commandments to preserve our life
Additional studies: Proverbs Index
I have often thought of these beginning chapters of Proverbs as somewhat narrow for focusing on the violation of a single commandment, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ However, I realized that the focus is on the single commandment, because all temptation to commit any sin presents itself as a beautiful and enticing seductress with a smooth tongue of flattering speech. To counteract it, we are to bind the Father’s commandments on our heart – that is the agent of desire (Pro 6:21) – and fingers – that is the agent of action (Pro 7:3).
