Zechariah 1 and 2, On measuring the temple
Additional studies: Zechariah Index
The old Bible commentators equated the visions of the measuring lines with God’s people examining their worship and practice, to see if it measured up with the pattern that He had established for His worship. They saw these visions, not necessarily as God’s people being given a new blueprint, but a call to return to the eternal blueprint established by the mouth of YHVH for His worship and service, which He gave to Moses on Mt. Sinai.
Proverbs 10, The proud fool
Additional studies: Proverbs Index
Hebrew has five different words to describe the foolish person, from the most innocent progressing to the most depraved. We saw that the most innocent is the simpleton. What the simple will inherit, if they have not turned from foolishness to wisdom, is folly, Strong’s H200, an abstract concept, from proud fool, Strong’s H191, eviyl. The proud fool is next in the progression of foolishness following the simpleton.
Revelation 8, And Medieval Rome
Additional studies: Revelation Index
The ancient Roman system ended in 312 AD, and Medieval Rome was already rising up. The barbarian invasions caused feudalism to become the prominent governing system; the power of the Pope was being solidified; the Roman church government was modeled after the defunct Roman system of government, with dioceses, and a Roman church “senate” of seventy members (the college of the Cardinals), and the Pope as “emperor” over the whole. As soon as Medieval Rome rose up, the trumpet judgments were already being sounded against it, to end it.
