Essential Studies.
Nehemiah 6 and 7, When the enemy prowls
Additional studies: Nehemiah Index (in process)
The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet 5:8). Why prowl and roar instead of simply devouring whomever he wishes? Because his roar is meant to strike fear in our hearts, and cause our hands to be slack, and cease the work God has given to us. He can’t devour whomever he wishes, because his power and authority has been stripped from him (Mat 28:18, Col 2:15). The only power he has, is the power we give him when we choose fear.
Proverbs 26, What fuels strife
Additional studies: Proverbs Index
What fuels quarrels and strife revealed in this chapter: 1) Contentions: not being satisfied with one’s possessions, status, or situation; 2) Backbiting: saying mean or spiteful things; 3) Speaking falsehoods and then evading responsibility by saying, “I was kidding;” 4) Talebearing or gossip. They all involve what comes out of the mouth. Yeshua told us, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” Strife ⇒ mouth ⇒ heart, to get to the root of the problem.
Revelation 20, Babylon defeated
Additional studies: Revelation Index
Since the prophetic declaration of world history begun with Daniel and then with John, the kingdoms of this world have been suffering one defeat following another. Babylon the head of gold is a pile of ruins; Persia is no more; Greece and its great kings are no more; ancient Rome is no more; medieval Rome is no more; and modern Rome is on its death bed, breathing as a death rattle. We are on the very cusp!
