Nehemiah 10 and 11, The holy seed

They did not obey the Law in order to get into the exclusive holy seed club. They were the holy seed, that was their identity; as their circumcised heart witnessed. Obedience did not confer set-apartness on them, but it confirmed their identity as the set apart. The great majority, 90% of the Jews, remained in Babylon, content to dwell among the peoples of the lands.

The structures in Proverbs contrast opposites: those who forsake Torah/ those who seek YHVH; the poor who has understanding/ the ruler who lacks understanding; blessings/ poverty, and so on. The one who keeps Torah, and confesses and forsakes sins, are contrasted with the proud or hard of heart, who does wickedly. A proud heart does not confess sins. Is pride the root of all evil? Hmm …
