I got ALL my water in yesterday! Whoo hoo! Around here, Sarah and I are at the height of that icky, fatiguey, achy feeling you get when first starting a detox. Sarah has been battling caffeine withdrawal headaches, and I have just had aches and pains, especially at night. There is a medical term for this initial response to detoxing; it is called the Herxheimer Reaction.
For me, it takes about the first four days of the detox to get through this phase. So try to plan your detox when you will have a few quiet days at the beginning if possible. I for one am SO GLAD today is Sabbath!
Today’s menu was prepared all in advance yesterday, so that we can truly rest today.
breakfast: leftover cornbread split and toasted under the broiler with a little butter, topped with 1 c sliced strawberries.
check off 1 of 2 fiber rich.
snack: 2 clementines.
check off daily citrus.
lunch: salad made with 1 c combined dark leafy greens (we are using beet greens and swiss chard because that is what we can find), 1 c baby lettuces, 1 c broccoli slaw, and 1 c baby carrots. Eat with 5 oz chicken salad (me) or tuna salad (Sarah) made with homemade mayonnaise.
check off daily dark leafy greens, daily crucifer, 2 of 2 fiber rich, and 4 oz protein.
snack: 2 stalks celery, cut up, eaten with whatever dip you want to make that is within the parameters of the diet. We like cream cheese with roasted red pepper, or green onion and parsley, or a roasted head of garlic. Or artichocke con queso. Or spinach dip. But today we are having guacamole.
check off daily liver healing and daily omega 3 rich fat.
dinner: Ree’s pot roast with carrots, and garlic mashed potatoes, and french cut green beans. I made my mashed potatoes yesterday afternoon and they are sitting in my fridge in a casserole dish; I will just need to pop them in the oven to heat them. And I my pot roast is likewise ready to go in the fridge; I will just put it in the oven at 1 pm today and let it cook. We are taking this dinner over to Grandma and Grandpa Miller’s house tonight, since Grandma just got out of the hospital yesterday and is not up to cooking for Grandpa.
check off daily sulfer rich, and 4 oz protein.
